Ski spring conditions on active snow-capped volcanoes, and spend your late afternoons visiting spectacular and relaxing thermal hot springs, or exploring the deep blue mountain lakes, rivers, and Monkey Puzzle forests that this unique region offers.  Sleep in local huts and nicely appointed local hotels.

We take care of all the logistics so you can take advantage of the best this region has to offer. The area has been compared to to Switzerland, likely due to the German influence of immigrants which can be seen in the small local farms, towns and traditions. An area rich in unique folklore and traditional handicraft, it may look European, but the experience is entirely Chilean. This volcano ski trip is the ultimate ski and cultural adventure in the Lake District area.

Dressing appropriately for the mountains can make the difference between a pleasant trip and a really uncomfortable one. Clothing must provide the right degree of temperature, perspiration and be well ventilated. Preferably cotton clothing should be avoided, as in humid conditions they absorb body heat.

In the morning we land in Santiago de Chile. With a domestic flight we continue to Temuco, which is almost 700 km to the south, directly in the “Little South”. In the afternoon we land in the small provincial capital of the Mapuche Indians. In the east of the city we can already see the two ski tour destinations for the coming days. Villarrica at 2,840 m and the Llaima volcano at 3,125 m. We move into our accommodation for the next 3 nights, about 1.5 hours’ drive away, on a wonderful hacienda between the Conguillío National Park and the Tolhuaca National Park, right next to the Malalcahuello Nature Reserve.

After a Swiss breakfast that is known far beyond the national borders, we climb the easy, 2,865 m high volcano Lonquimay today. As if painted, the volcano in the north of the hacienda builds up. Surrounded by wide aura forests, the landscape changes as it ascends into wide ash fields and snow slopes that are fantastic to drive on. From the summit we can enjoy the two main craters of the volcano and, above all, the view of the fascinating landscape below us. With wide turns we enjoy the descent over the Chilean firn back to our vehicles. At the hacienda, the day ends comfortably with a glass of wine and good food. The tireless can also dare a ride on the in-house horses.

The Sierra Nevada volcano lies to the south of the Hacienda and is the goal of today’s ski tour. Through the well-known Aurakien forests, we climb almost like a jungle up to wide firn slopes and make our way to the summit. Opposite, tomorrow’s destination, the 3,125 m high Llaima volcano, enchants us with its shape. The view extends far into the Conguillion National Park with its deep blue lake of the same name. We drive back down to the hacienda via the ascent route.

We start early today for a long but absolutely worthwhile ski tour to the highest peak of the Conguillion National Park. The approximately 2,000 m long ascent is crisp and leads over the glacier up to the constantly smoking summit. Sulfur vapor surrounds us at the edge of the crater, which leaves a lasting impression simply because of its size of more than 300 m. Over wide, ideally inclined slopes, the turns can be a little further at 1,500 m descent. Last night at the hacienda.

Our ski touring journey continues south. On the Pan Americana we drive to Pucon, about 3.5 hours away. The city lies at the foot of the Villarrica volcano directly on the lake and is known for its beautiful, white sandy beaches. In recent years, the city with 8 ski facilities has developed into a true ski mecca in Chile. In the afternoon we explore the sights, take a boat trip on Lago Villarrica or bathe in one of the thermal springs. Overnight in a good hotel in town. In the evening we enjoy the good Chilean cuisine. The evening ends in one of the bars.

Along the southern shore of Lago Villarrica we drive to Lago Calafque and now come to the region de los Rios. Lakes, forests and lonely landscapes form the backdrop for a varied journey through the little Switzerland of Chile. At Lago Panguipulli we head west again on the Pan Americana and reach Lago Puyehue. A visit to the thermal baths is worthwhile here. We stay in a small hotel and enjoy the fresh salmon that the region is known for.

The ski ascent of the 2,652 m high Osorno is certainly the crowning glory of this ski tour trip in Chile. We make the ascent easier by driving up to the ski area at 1,300 m.
